I was reading a discussion on Reddit about counterfeit books, and I was taken aback by some people rationalizing that it is okay. I don't like the idea of other people making money illegally from someone else's hard work. If you feel conflicted about this, imagine that you are the one who created something but someone else is making money off the thing you worked hard for; is that okay with you? Writing (or liberal arts in general) is not considered a career where you can make a living, and if support for counterfeiting and piracy keeps increasing to the point where it's normalized, the craft gets even more devalued.
