Nostalgia Fit: 90s Songs Part 1

I was a kid during the 90s and that time I already love music! Well, it is one of the effects of my love for music countdowns haha. Anyway, let's go back memory lane as I share some songs which I believe define the era (and personal favorites as well :D). This is just the first part and I will start first with foreign songs. To be honest, some of the songs here (Brick and Semi Charmed Life for example) I did not even understand what the meaning until when I grew up haha and I was shocked to know what their meaning were haha but I still like those regardless of what they mean. Anyway, here is the part one of my nostalgia fit with the 90s songs:

Monthsary

Today marks my first month here at Fireball Planet Corporation. And I already adjusted with the working environment. The people I work it are very nice, the bosses too. I realized that this actually an ideal first job for me. I'm learning a lot of something new although not connected with my degree haha since I'm surrounded with computer people somehow I'm learning some techie stuff like how to use Smart FTP and Dreamweaver. And since this company is focused on Internet Marketing it really opened my eyes that you could earn a lot through the Internet. Come to think of it, I'm an Internet addict and it's quite amusing that my first job is associated with the world wide web. Of course I won't deny that I enjoy the fast Internet connection here and there are only a few restriction on sites as long as you could do your task on time and your productivity is not affected you could surf non-work related stuff. But I also observe that since this a small company (it only started last year) I could still see flaws on the managing aspect (they could lessen the leniency, in my opinion) but that is understandable. So far, for the past month I'm glad I was able to apply some principles in my degree since I wrote press releases and scripts for TV infomercials, edited writing content, wrote fun feature articles (like my weekly movie review task), online quizzes among others. But there are also tasks that I find too tedious like transcribing a video haha. The salary is okay, I wish it would be much higher but I'm fine with it for now since it teaches me more how to manage money effectively so I would not be broke haha.
I still have two months in my contract after that hmmmm....let's see.

Counter Injustice

Please check out the blog created by my friends, this is not just a personal blog, but a project they initiated to enlighten people on the different injustices happening in our society. Here is an excerpt:

"Me and the other writers here would only want one thing to happen – to open the minds of more people.

Social change won’t happen if there are only a handful of people wanting it. We, the youth, should be involved and be deeply concerned with what is happening in our country."

Dating Beyond Dining

During my bum period I did some freelance writing and here is one of my works. 'Dating Beyond Dining". It was featured in pinoyguyguide.com, it is an online magazine blog for well, of course, for Men haha. By that site won as the Best Blog for Fashion and Lifestyle in the Philippine Blog Awards 2. Here is an excerpt of what I wrote:

But seriously, dating should not just be confined in the four walls of a restaurant or a cinema house. Not that these concepts are bad but if you do that all the time wouldn’t it be, well, predictable and boring? And I’m sure you would not want your relationship to end up like that, right?

Nine Things About My Work

1. I have been working for 9 days now.
2. I work every weekdays 10am to 7pm
3. I work in an online marketing company, Fireball Planet Corporation.
4. I work as content writer. So far I've written online pop quizzes, copy for sales letter for the stuff the company sells online, scripts for the online marketing video they produced and edited articles for the up coming eBook of our CEO.
5. My contract is to work there for three months.
6. Sometimes, I feel guilty because when I am finished with my tasks for the day and have so much idle time while my co-workers are busy, I just surf the net (the connection there is 100x better than what I have at home) I could not leave early because I will get salary deduction
7. I bring packed lunch everyday to save up on money. And sometimes, if my father and/or brother goes home early, I go home with them (they also work in Makati but they are both drivers and they don't have a fix work schedule).
8. I will receive my first salary next week. But it will be small since I started last September 9 only and the cut off period is from Sept. 1 to 15.
9. Am I happy? I'm not miserable but not really ecstatic. I feel OK, it's a good thing I have work now and the working environment is actually nice. It is just that, when I go home I could not help but feel empty. But I will stay with the job until my contract ends. After that, let us just wait and see

Old Life

On my way home from work, I saw a student holding a school paper. I thought it was Heraldo Filipino for a second but when I looked at it again, it was not. It was the school paper of Adamson University. The layout is similar with HF kasi or so it seems.
How I miss holding a copy of a fresh issue of HF. I always get excited whenever the newest issue is delivered and circulated. I miss the feeling.
My old issues of HF are stored in a plastic container in my room. Maybe I should take a look at it again and reminisce.
Sometimes, I want to visit the HF office but I feel shy. May 15, 2008 was the last time I was in HF and I left HF with a whimper. I had a great life at HF. Though I hate myself for being a loser on my last few months with HF. Instead of savoring my last days with HF, I spent it pressured as the publications were late and clashes between some of the editors unresolved. Incompetence
Here I go again. It is just that I always feel bad, guily, for not being the best EIC that i should be.
Oh well.

First Day

Today was my first day at work. It was a fine day, I was assigned some tasks which I believe I handled well. My office mates are very nice but I have to be honest that I felt out of place. Well, it felt like I was a new kid in school. I never felt that before since I studied elementary and high school in one school and in college we are all new kids when we started. This was different my co-workers are already bonded and it did not help that my field is really different from them. Well, they are all "computer people" (computer programmers, graphic artists and the like) while I'm the only writer there. But what is good is that they are approachable and I felt the effort to make me feel comfortable. I was just shy, I admit. Hopefully, before my three month contract ends I will already formed a good relationship with them.

Prelude to Day 1

Tomorrow would be my first day at work. I had my orientation and contract signing earlier today.
It felt good as I signed the papers. I'm officially employed already. My salary is just fine, not really that huge, I guess I would earn only half of the salaries of my classmates who work for call centers but for now I'm contented with my salary. It's a start.
By the way, I will work as a web content writer for a client of my company. My contract is only three months. After that. well let us wait and see. For now, I'm both excited and nervous. It felt like my first day in college. I am now in a new environment with new people plus new challenges.
Here I come!

Fly

I am now 21. Has it been this long already? Ha! Ha!

"Bad news is time flies but the good news is you're the pilot"

I don't know if that is the exact quote but the essence is there anyway. I read that quote while inside the elevator. It got me, especially now that I'm about to enter a new stage in my life.

I am the pilot and the plane is about to take off.

Birthday Gift

A few minutes from now I will turn 21. A lot had happened the past year. Unforgettable experiences. So many lessons learned. But I thank God for everything, I survived another year. And as I turn a year older I will soon face a new chapter in my life, a way overdue chapter.
But when I think of it, the timing is so perfect. My birthday wish would have been that I finally get a job and guess what earlier today I was finally hired!
I NOW HAVE A JOB!
Thank you God for this wonderful birthday gift you have given to me. After five months of being a bum where I experienced rejection, false hopes and so many emo moments haha finally this is it.
I discovered a lot during my unemployed time. It humbled me. I had so many reflections about myself and life in general. I guess this was God's plan. He taught me a lesson. And somehow that period of my life was a blessing in disguise especially for my family. Maybe it was one of the reasons why it took so long for me to land a job. Everything just went into full circle.
I will never forget it.
I am excited that now I'm finally here about to face the real world. At the same time, I am nervous but heck it's about time. I'm ready!

Mama

This day, last year I received the worst and most devastating news in my life, Mama Iyang, my maternal grandmother and the only grandparent I grew up with, died.
I could still recall how shock I was and how I cried hard when nanay told me on the phone that mama died. It was days before my birthday.
She lived alone for three decades although she was surrounded by her relatives.
Ang plano dapat after my graduation magbabakasyon kami nila Nanay at Tatay sa Bohol.
Sabi ni nanay sakin si Mama nag dala nun and I strongly believe that.

The Picture Says It All

Amazing shot right? I got this from the Eraserheads Reunion Concert 2008 Thread at Pinoyexchange.
This photo is by Jorem Catilo, check more pictures from his site, see it here.
He really have breathtaking shots from the concert.
But among his shots, this one got me the most. This was shot after he sang the final song of the first set (and well of the concert) Light Years. Ely must have really been so exhausted.
Get Well Soon, Ely Buendia!
