Now 37, Mumford & Sons Lead Billboard 200

(My Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 round up was posted earlier, you can see it here)

After six weeks of experiencing "record breaking" sales lows, the Billboard 200 finally had its first #1 album to sell above 100K with the compilation "Now That's What I Called Music 37" topping the chart with 151K sales sum. The last time the Billboard 200 saw an album selling above was December last year when Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" 276K on the tracking week that ended on December 26.

"Now That's What I Called Music 37" features 20 songs including 7 Hot 100 #1s namely Katy Perry's "Firework", Bruno Mars' "Just The Way You Are", Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie", Pink's "Raise Your Glass", Ke$ha's "We R Who We R", Rihanna's "Only Girl" and Far East Movement's "Like a G6". The inclusion of these hits could have been a factor for the improved sales of this edition of the "Now" series. "Now 37" is the first edition of the Now series to top the Billboard 200 since "Now 31" in July 2009 selling 169K on its first week.

Grammy nominee for Best New Artist Mumford & Sons "Sigh No More" soars all the way to #2 from #13 this week earning a new peak one year after its release. The set sold 49K this, a sales improvement of 99%, 34k of the total sum came from digital sales according to Paul Grein of Yahoo! Chart Watch. The band's praised performance on the Grammy Awards last Sunday is a factor of the sales boost.

On the heels of his 3D biopic/concert movie "Never Say Never", Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" jumps #17-#3 selling 48K. Bieber has another album in the top 10 with "My Worlds Acoustic" zooms #47-#10 this week selling 35K. Next week "Never Say Never: The Remixes", the CD companion of his 3D movie, is expected to top Billboard 200 with 115K-125K sales range estimation.

Last week's #1 Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" drops down to #4 this week with sales of 47k. On the other hand, P!nk's "Greatest Hits... So Far" vaults #9-#5 selling 41K. Aside from the fact the Greatest Hits set earned a new peak, this actually Pink's second highest peaking set on the Billboard 200 after #2 peak of her last album 2008's "Funhouse". She previously had two albums that peaked at #6, 2001's "M!ssundaztood" and 2006's "I'm Not Dead".

Bruno Mars won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Just The Way You Are", his album "Doo Wops and Hooligans" drops #4-#6 but had 24% sales increase this week (39K). The Grammy frontrunner for Album of the Year Eminem's "Recovery" lost but on the bright side the album saw 51% improvement on his to boost the album #10-#7 this week (38k). Rihanna also bag a Grammy for "Best Dance Recording" for "Only Girl (In The World)" and "Loud" that album which the song is part of had 24% sales increase (37K) but also dropped #5-#8

Arcade Fire pulled an upset when their critically acclaimed album "The Suburbs" won the Grammy for Album of the Year. The award winning album had a 95% sales increase leaping #80-#52 this week after selling 12K. The full Grammy effect will be reflected next week and expect a bigger sales spike for "The Suburbs"

American Idol 10 is still going strong in the ratings but last year's top 2 still struggle to achieve Pop culture relevancy. AI9 Winner Lee DeWyze's debut album "Live It Up" dropped out a few weeks ago on the Billboard while AI9 runner up Crystal Bowersox's "Farmer's Daughter" is hanging on at #98 but in fairness the album saw a 27% sales spike this week and has already outsold DeWyze but her total sum is just 150K.
