For the first chart week for 2013, Bruno Mars's Locked Out of Heaven logs its 3rd week at the Billboard Hot 100. Threatening Heave's reign on top is Taylor Swift's I Knew You Were Trouble which rises #10-#4 this week and it's currently on top of iTunes and benefited from the Christmas day sales surge which will be reflected on next week's chart. But Swift's track is not available for legal online streaming which put it at a disadvantage is Mars' song is a force in streaming and airplay. But if f I Knew You Were Trouble sell boatloads next week to overcame the lack of streaming points, it could possibly take the #1 spot next week. Let's wait and see ;)
Entering the top 10 this week is rap track Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Also closing in the top 10 is Swedish House Mafia's Don't You Worry Child (#11), will.i.am and Britney Spears' Scream and Shout (#12) and Pink's Try (#13). Can they be the big hits of 2013? Let's wait and see ;)
Mariah Carey's Christmas classic All I Want For Christmas is You reaches a new peak at #21. As Christmas is already over the song will dive next week (and possibly drop out) but thanks to rule change of Billboard, we will see the song chart again next year and who knows it could reach a new peak again.
Billboard's #1 song for 2012 (check out the year end chart here) Gotye and Kimbra's Somebody That I Used to Know hangs on at the chart at #49 on its 51st week on the chart. It will spend a full year on the chart next week as it will receive an airplay rise thank to radio year-end specials. #2 for the 2012 Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen rises #45-#43 on its 44th week on the chart, like Gotye's track the song will rise again next week thanks to year-end specials boost. Longest chart sitter Ellie Goulding's Lights (#5 for 2012) drops #43-#45 on its 53rd week on the chart.
