Philippine Box Office Roundup 7

Here's the 7th edition of my Philippine Box Office Roundup and you can read my previous recap (which was just a few days ago :D ) here. And as always here are some notes with regards to my box office roundup:
  • The following box office stats are from the ever awesome Box Office Mojo's Philippine Box Office Index. Thus, my box office comparisons and analysis are only limited to what Box Office Mojo has in its records
  • Studios and local distributors sometimes issues press releases about the box office performance of their movies and there are instances that they do not exactly match the data Box Office Mojo have in hand. I'm not sure how wide Box Office Mojo's scope is with our local theaters but for the purposes of a consistent discussion and analysis I will only focus on the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo.
  • I added some stuff like the Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol box office for 2012 since Box Office Mojo does not include that 2011 holdover on their Top Movies 2012 list. Meanwhile the box office numbers for the holdovers from the MMFF last year are not on BOM's list so they're not on here as well.
  • Box Office Mojo does not have the numbers for Ayala Cinemas Exclusive My Week with Marilyn so it's not on the charts below.

Wrath of the Titans opened to a strong 62.7 million pesos in the Philippine Box Office. It opened above Clash of The Titans which opened with 47 million at the same time two years ago. But it should be noted that Wrath of the Titans was the only new release last week and had a wide release plus IMAX and 3D ticket premium so all the odds were in favor for this movie to opened huge. Clash of The Titans competed with local romcom Babe I Love You and kids flick Diary of a Wimpy Kid. However, Clash of The Titans finished with $4.7 million (or around 211 million pesos) and was the #3 film of 2010 (after Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Iron Man 2). I don't think the movie can reach that level despite a strong opening due the 3D movies cooling off in the box office lately and the lower Peso-Dollar exchange rate. Anyway, due to the movie's strong opening it launched itselft at #7 on the Year to Date chart (Pesos).

Last week's #1 The Hunger Games already earned 114 million pesos as of April 1 and is now the second highest grossing movie of the year after UnOfficially Yours. There's still 46 million pesos separating the top 2 two films and The Hunger Games might struggle to surpass UnOfficially Yours as the movie's box office was a bit dampened by Wrath of the Titans' arrival and since its 3rd week fell on Holy Week it won't see that much business in the box office. It will also compete with Titanic 3D which opens this week (watch out for my review) is a wildcard and heavily promoted Battleship which opens on April 12 . Will the odds be in its favor? Let's wait and see. Nevertheless, the movie is still a box office success.

While it flopped elsewhere, John Carter did solid business in the Philippine box office as it already crossed $2 million (86 million pesos). Meanwhile, 50 million pesos is within reach for Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang which is considered a success as the movie has a small production budget (akin to local independent films).

Here are the Philippine Box Office charts (both in dollars and pesos) as I originally posted at the BoxOffice.com forums:
