Billboard Hot 100 (Issue Date: April 28, 2012)

Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know (featuring Kimbra) unseats fun.'s We Are Young (featuring Janelle Monae) for the top spot on this week's Billboard Hot 100. The six-week ruler succumb to Gotye's huge sales this week selling over 500k this week thanks to exposure from various TV shows last week from Glee to American Idol to Saturday Night Live. Gotye is the first Australian act (he was born in Belgium though but raised in Australia) to hit #1 since Savage Garden's I Knew I Loved You in 1999. The song also rises to #1 on the On Demand Songs chart replacing fun.'s song as well.

Both Somebody That I Used to Know and We Are Young topped Billboard's Alternative chart and this marks the first time that a pop-rock/alt-pop are back to back #1s. The last time it happened was in 2000 when Matchbox Twenty's Bent was replaced by Vertical Horizon's Everything You Want for the #1 spot.

The highest debut this week comes from the Glee cover of Somebody That I Used to Know which bows at #27. This week the Glee cast landed their 200th Billboard Hot 100 hit this week, the highest number of Hot 100 charted titles in history. But it should be noted that Glee cast releases a lot of songs per episode and most of them only lasts a week. In fact of the 200 tracks, only 33 songs lasted for more than a week. And of those 33 track, only 3 lasted for more than 3 weeks and those are their covers of Poker Face (4 weeks), Forget You (5 weeks) and Don't Stop Believin' (7 weeks).

LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem (featuring Lauren Bennet and GoonRock) slides #37-#41 on its 56th week on the chart. It's the longest chart sitter for the week followed by Maroon Five's Move Like Jagger (featuring Christina Aguilera) which descends 42-#43 on it's 43rd week on the chart. Those songs might go recurrent in the next couple of weeks after a lengthy run. Speaking of Maroon Five, their new single Payphone is currently on top and the song will debut inside the Top 5.
